Uv STERILISATION CABINETS PROVIDE A ‘MINI CLEANROOM’ FACILITY
Where laboratories require a compact, yet safe, nucleic acid-free environment which provides an easily accessible area for setting-up PCR (Polymerase Chain Reactions), uvCAB UV Sterilisation Cabinets from CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC (CSL) are an ideal solution, particularly when space is at a premium.
Similar to having a ‘mini-cleanroom’ in your laboratory, CSL UV Sterilisation cabinets minimise the potential for PCR reaction contamination. They include powerful UV lights which serve to denature nucleic acids in 5 to 30 minutes making them suitable for decontamination of equipment used for setting up PCR reactions. The lights are timer controlled and there are safety switches on the cabinet doors which automatically turn-off the UV lights when opened preventing user exposure to UV light.
The cabinets also act as an efficient shield against beta radioactive emissions and can therefore be safely used with isotopes, such as 32P. The cabinets also include a white light which provides excellent visibility when working inside the cabinet.
uvCAB cabinets are available in two sizes. The Maxi version offers a large working space measuring 660 x 560 x 420mm (H x W x D) and offers a good sized cabinet for setting-up and also storage of PCR reactions along with the pipettes, racks and other equipment. For laboratories where space and budgets are particularly limited, the Mini Cabinet is ideal. It measures just 400 x 560 x 350mm (H x W x D).
Accessories such as DNA and RNA removing solutions and compatible safety trays with disposable liners for use with both sizes of cabinets are also available.

NEW STAINS FOR PROTEIN DETECTION FROM CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC
Three new protein stains for post-electrophoretic protein detection, which are reversible and claimed to be more sensitive than many colorimetric and fluorescent stains currently available on the market, are now available from CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC (CSL). Available in blue, green and red colours as CSLblue, CSLgreen and CSLred, these protein stains can detect a minimum 1-3ng of protein per square millimetre of gel.
Staining is simple, with the gel just immersed directly within the CSLblue, CSLgreen or CSLred stain for approximately one hour which is no longer than is necessary for other commercial stains, such as Coomassie and SYPRO Ruby. However, destaining is generally faster and may be completed within as little 30 minutes.
Visualisation of the gel is performed with a visible light filter on a standard UV transilluminator, using the preferred lower energy 312 or 365nm wavelengths. Membranes following protein transfer may also be visualised in a dark hood after staining with CSLgreen.
All three CSL stains are based on metal chelates and will remain stable for at least one year without loss of sensitivity if stored in a refrigerator. CSLblue is a colorimetric chelate stain, strongly visible under white light and at least twice as sensitive as Coomassie blue. At visible wavelengths, CSLgreen produces a fluorescent signal with an intensity which is greatly increased in the presence of detergent to the extent that it is four times more sensitive than Coomassie blue. CSLred’s fluorescence intensity also increases in the presence of detergent which results in it being able to detect protein with at least two-fold greater sensitivity than SYPRO Ruby. All three stains are reversible enabling them to be removed to allow the gel to be subjected to other post-electrophoretic applications. They can also be reused up to three times for repeated staining. Typical applications include post-electrophoretic staining of protein gels and blots and for imaging following 2-D electrophoresis.

SAFER, DNA DAMAGE FREE VISUALISATION OF GELS WITH SAFECLONER
A new device which enables safe, UV-free visualisation of EtBr, SYBR Green and SYBR safe gels, is now available through electrophoresis specialist CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC (CSL). SafeCloner means DNA bands can now been seen safely and clearly, using high efficiency LED illumination and filter glasses.
Eliminating harmful UV is an important benefit of SafeCloner, its LED illuminator removes the dangers of conventional transilliminator use, such as stray UV, which, if unchecked, can cause retinal damage. It also eliminates the dangers to technicians of exposing their hands to harmful UV radiation, which can increase the risk of skin cancer and accelerate aging, whilst also damaging DNA.
LED illumination does not damage DNA even after long exposure times. Also, the cloning efficiency of DNA fragments eluted from gels exposed to SafeCloner is significantly improved compared to the cloning efficiency of DNA isolated from traditional UV-illuminated gels. SafeCloner’s blue epi-LED illumination and special filter glass result in greater sensitivity and contrast than longer wavelength 365nm transilluminators. SafeCloner can also be used with inexpensive gel documentation products such as the Cleaver Scientific Microdoc unit.

These cabinets provide a compact, low-cost and easily accessible area for setting-up PCR (Polymerase Chain Reactions), whilst minimising the potential for PCR reaction contamination.
The cabinets have powerful UV lights which serve to denature nucleic acids in 5 to 30 minutes making them unsuitable for amplication and contamination of PCR reactions. These lights are timer controlled and there are safety switches on the cabinet doors which automatically turn-off the UV lights when opened to prevent user exposure to UV light.
The cabinets also act as an efficient shield against beta radioactive emissions and can therefore be safely used with isotopes, such as 32P. The cabinets also include a white light which provides excellent visibility when working inside them.
uvCAB cabinets are available in two sizes. It measures just 400 x 560 x 350mm (H x W x D) and contains two timer controlled UV bulbs.

NEW HORIZONTAL ELECTROPHORESIS UNITS GUARANTEE LEAK PROOF SEALING
Easy-to-use, quick to set-up and capable of the highest quality, rapid and reliable sample resolution, these are the important features of a new range of injection moulded horizontal electrophoresis products, introduced by CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC LTD, (CSL).
Including a wide range of technical enhancements, the Cleaver scientific multisub horizontal range is the newest and most technically advanced range of DNA and RNA gel systems available.
CSL offer five different horizontal units in their multiSUB™ range, which incorporate sixteen different gel tray sizes, and unlike many other electrophoresis units, they benefit from an injection moulded construction which
provides a range of important benefits to the user. For example, a stronger, more durable high quality finish to better withstand the demands of the modern laboratory, yet they are lightweight, leak-proof and more competitively priced as a result of lower manufacturing costs. They also look attractive in the lab.
Central to the ease of use of the product is the guaranteed “plug and go” leak proof gel casting system. No agarose plugs or adjustments of gasket as advised by other manufacturers are necessary.
All multiSUB horizontal gel units are sold as complete systems and include all the required accessories. These include UV transparent gel trays with a choice of at least two different gel tray sizes per unit. This is a handy option when using expensive Low melting point agarose – the gel size can be matched to sample number requirements.
The researcher can also choose the types of comb they require at the time of purchase thanks to our free of charge comb substitution policy – again purchasing additional combs is not required and the multiSUB range offers the widest choice of combs available with more comb thickness, sample number, Multichannel pipette compatible and preparative choices. All combs are colour coded for thickness and easy identification, are height adjustable for added versatility and are completely warp proof due to a rigid comb back.
In addition reversible and double sided combs are available complete with either well- loading guide on the reverse side which help to channel the pipette tip into the well, or an additional different sample number comb for economy and space saving.
Two types of viewing guide are included, helping researchers when they come to load their samples.
And the list of benefits continues with increased sample capacity due to increased lane numbers, high sample number combs and stackable gel trays in the new multiSUB4 model, easy to replace and repair cassette style electrodes, power supply connecters and adapters which guarantee power supply compatibility and corrosion resistant high quality components.
Additional accessories offered include direct cooling packs to enhance resolution and allow faster run times, buffer saver blocks for added gel run economy, fluorescent rulers and gel leveling casters for perfectly level gels.

RAPID USER FRIENDLY MINI VERTICAL GEL CASTING
Introducing a rapid, intuitive, easy to set up, leak proof mini vertical gel casting system from CLEAVER SCIENTIFIC LTD, (CSL).
The new omniPAGE mini vertical gel electrophoresis unit for protein PAGE separations and electroblotting contains the fastest and easiest system solution for casting mini vertical gels.
Constructed using the latest Injection moulded manufacturing which gives a product with a high quality finish, durability, strength and low cost, each clamping bar side has only one screw.
This is possible because the system contains a pressure bar which surrounds the glass plates, yet still allows cooling buffer to contact the gel, enhancing gel resolution.
To cast the gel, the glass plates are simply inserted into the unit and the single screws tightened. Once tightened the insert is transferred to the casting base and secured down onto an ultra soft 10 shore hardness silicone mat.
The gel solution is loaded and then once the gel has set, the module is simply placed into the tank for running. Gel casting is therefore a simple four step procedure.
This makes the system much simpler to cast gels than other systems available because there is a minimum number of steps required and no transfer of glass plates is necessary.
In addition, the omniPAGE Mini is built for durability because it has high impact components and progressive casting cams which allow for wear.
The omniPAGE Mini incorporates a reversible gasket which takes all 10 x 10cm and 10 x 8cm commercially available precast gels. The pressure bar enables parallel clamping of any precast gel for perfect gel resolution.
Other benefits of the omniPAGE Mini:-
A cooling pack is included as standard for rapid set up cooling. This also takes up buffer space so is a cooling pack / buffer saver pack combined. Use of the cooling pack enhances resolution giving ultra fine sample bands and parallel sample migration. No other unit has such an easy to use and rapid set-up cooling system.
omniPAGE has increased capacity; it is not only a dual system as up to four gels can be cast and run using a triple plate sandwich.
A wider range of comb and spacer choices than other systems is available, including preparative, 2-D, high sample number and Multi channel pipette compatible, colour coded for thickness in five thicknesses – 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5 and 2mm.
2mm thick glass plates prevent breakage and have bonded spacers for convenience and perfect set up during gel casting.
Accessory blotting and tube gel modules are available which use the same outer tank and lid. The blotting module has an increased three gel capacity and includes novel double hinged cassettes which eliminate shadow bands.
